Ten31 Bio
Ten31 consists of Julie and Virgil Taylor. They are based in Granite, Shoals, Texas (about 50 miles west of Austin). Virgil and Julie have been friends for 11 years and were married in March of 2007, and have played together on church worship teams as well as in local venues and churches as Ten31.
Julie began singing with various bands, including the Steroids and Animal Farm, at age 17. Songwriting is her passion, and her vast and eclectic tastes in music have greatly colored her own work. She cites artists Kate Bush, Elton John (the old stuff), The Pretenders, The Specials, Rich Mullins, English Beat, Queen, Waterdeep, and Toad the Wet Sprocket as some of her favorite artists, and says that the influence of all of these crop up in her songwriting from time to time. Julie contributes rhythm guitar and vocals to Ten31.
Virgil picked up the bass at age 22 and joined up with Julie in about 1997. He co-writes with Julie occasionally, and includes Rush, Led Zeppelin, Joe Satriani, Third Day, and Abraham Laboriel as his influences. Virgil also provides some percussion to Ten31.
Julie and Virgil traveled to Escondido, CA, in September of 2006, where they recorded three songs with Julie's brothers (Brad and Jim Karow, drums and guitar/mandolin/steel guitar, respectively) at Golden Track Studio. Visit our Songclips page to hear clips of these tunes as well as some recorded at a local home studio. You may also purchase these and other songs at www.broadjam.com/ten31.
Currently, Virgil and Julie are recording a full-length CD with Jeff Van Zandt and Chris White outside of Austin, with an approximate completion date of April 2008.
Ten31 performs as a duo or a three-piece (guitar, bass, drums), and plays predominately original music of various genres. While the music styles vary, their lyrics focus on life situations and the hope that is in Jesus Christ. Their greatest desire is to musically speak to those who are going through struggles and not knowing where to find hope.
